Meet Richard Cardillo, MD

Dr. Richard Cardillo is a New Jersey native who now resides in Northern Michigan with his wife and their Border Collie, Rowdy. He earned his medical degree from Rutgers Medical School and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. He went on to complete a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Drexel–Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Cardillo is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Sleep Medicine, bringing broad and specialized expertise to patients seeking high-quality telehealth medical care. Throughout his career, he has practiced within leading healthcare systems, including Mayo Clinic Health System, Lutheran Medical Group, Ascension St. Vincent, and McLaren Northern Michigan.

He has extensive experience in outpatient pulmonary medicine, virtual sleep medicine, hospital consultations, intensive care, and interventional pulmonology. His clinical approach emphasizes thoughtful evaluation, evidence-based treatment, and clear communication—particularly important for patients managing chronic respiratory or sleep-related conditions.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Cardillo has held multiple leadership roles, including Medical Director positions for a large multispecialty physician group and a high-acuity long-term acute care hospital. These roles reflect his commitment to clinical excellence, quality outcomes, and patient-centered care.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Cardillo enjoys hiking, biking, and motorsports. He is also an accomplished bass guitarist and enjoys cooking and travel.
